Today was a meeting in the AM with Wardrobe Designer Kate Bergh at the garment makers to discuss fabric for Starfleet uniforms. Then off to rehearsals with Curtis Webster for the scene he and I are doing in acting class, which is the great “bartender” scene between Pike and Boyce in “The Cage”. So much fun doing Star Trek in class!
Meanwhile, Rob is having fun editing the first Axanar scene:
Today, the inbox was filled with what I’d like to call Tobias Richter Dilithium. FIVE new completed composite shots. Now, unlike the lock-off, over the shoulder composites he’d already delivered… these are tracking shots…moving on a dolly with our characters as they walk. They are also “French Overs,” which are essentially over the shoulder shots from behind. I’ve always liked these shots…and I actually used them in the first episode of FEMME FATALES I directed, but those weren’t moving. Once again, Tobias’ composites are something to behold. The image is filled with little details, including dust floating through the scene, enhancing the illusion of reality. There’s even new Vulcan shuttle designs we’ve never seen before, zipping through the ShiKahr skies, sure to delight the fans of the great YouTube series TREKYARDS. They certainly delighted me.
But here’s the kicker… Tobias sent me another email, saying, “I have uploaded another animatic to the animatic folder – vulcan 02a. This could be used between shot 02 and shot 03, if you like it and it fits in the edit. It would be sort of optional, because I am not 100% sure I can do it in time, but I think so. So far everything has been going pretty smoothly, so I might have enough time to render and comp this additional shot. But only if you think it makes sense. Let me know…”
This reminded me of the time I was in High School, and legendary director Stanley Kramer called my home to ask if I’d be interested in attending his community college film class. My math tutor knew him, and gave him my number. I was all like, “Um…you mean you’re IT’S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD Stanley Kramer?”
So… I looked at the animatic Vulcan 02a to see what Tobias had done. My interest piqued, I was eager to see if it would fit in my vision of the first scene everyone will see from AXANAR. Let me put it to you this way… the finished shot will be a 10.0 on the Richter Scale.

This is getting more and more exciting as the days fly by. That’s one of the cool things about film making that I absolutely love — the experimenting, the compromising, and the imagination it takes to make a sensational film even better. It’s fantastic when people see things that other don’t, and take the risk to demonstrate it to those who are open to daring and risky ideas. You have no idea how much I’m looking forward to this adventure call Axanar!

Looking forward to the Korolev model kit. I’ve been buy Starcraft model kits for years and years, they are great. I have the Ares and D-6, looking forward to adding this one too.
