Axanar Animal Rescue Kitten 2024 Update!

By January 10, 2025Axanar Animal Rescue

The past two months have been a whirlwind for Alec and Crysstal and the Axanar Animal Rescue Team!  And overall, a great year!

We started the beginning of December with 18 cats in foster, 2 with our fosters Quest and Sarah (Doom and Homelander), 5 with our foster Angela (Nutmeg, Milo, Sterling, Ivy, Willow) and 11 at the Peters household (Piper, Paige, Phoebe, Prosecco, Chablis, Pinot Grigio, Marina, Caspian, Darius, Coral, Darcy).

But with our new relationship with Petco, we had a run on cats the last 10 days before Christmas!

The cat adoption center at Petco, now fully stocked with Axanar Cats! We are so excited to be working with a manager and her assistant managers who are huge cat people.  They haven’t had cats for almost a year and in the first week of having cats again, we adopted out SEVEN cats! Every cat is fully vetted, spayed or neutered, de-wormed, chipped and vaccinated.  Axanar Animal Rescue has the best cats as we don’t keep our cats locked up in crates, they are fostered as part of a family, with other cats and usually dogs.

Axanar Animal Rescue has TNRed over 100 cats this past year. TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release) is what you do with outdoor, stray or “community cats”. This helps keep the population of stray cats low.  This is especially important since 60% of kittens born outside die because of conditions and prey animals (like cougars, hawks or owls).

Here we are rescuing two cats dumped by a storm drain behind a Dunkin Donuts. The cats were TNRed and then re-homed to a lady who has about 30 outdoor cats she cares for.

We built this amazing 10 room cat house for a needy family that feeds over 30 cats in a trailer park in Snellville. Chris, a friend of the rescue, built this with only about $250 worth of supplies.

This family adopted two of Angela’s remaining three cats (Willow and Sterling), leaving Milo, the last of the litter.  But Mom couldn’t bear the thought of Milo being alone, so on the way home she called me and I told her I would cut the adoption fee down to $50 and she turned around and came back for him!

This young lady took Presecco, our Orange mom cat, home and they are best friends now!

And yesterday as we were preparing for the storm, I got a call from a gentleman who said two kittens showed up on his porch! They were very friendly he said and he got my # from Petco. So I drove 45 minutes to get these little ones as the man wouldn’t keep them (they had a dog I think). He put them in a trap and I picked them up and brought them home.

He was right! They were as sweet and loving and purring right out of the trap. They were also famished and demolished the top shelf wet food I gave them. We de-wormed them, vaccinated them (we do this ourself as we can do it upon intake and it is cheaper) and then this AM they got a good bath!

We have named them Brittney and Payton the two ladies running Kat Pawz Sanctuary here in Atlanta. Brittney was struck head on by a truck and died Saturday, a shock to our entire community. Our hearts go out to Payton and her family. We rescue in Brittney’s honor this week.
These two sweethearts will be available next week as they get spayed/neutered tomorrow! They are total love bugs! We would love them to go together and will discount the adoption fee if a family takes them together!

OUR GOFUNDME IS FUNDED!

Thank you to everyone who donated to our GoFundMe.  And while every single $ counts, I want to especially thank Dave Lanyon and Gudni Gudnason, our two Axanar Executive producers, who funded the entire goal by themselves.  These two guys are truly amazing human beings.  They care not just about Axanar, but about people (Dave gives a great deal to homeless causes in Toronto, where he lives) and Gudni (who supports several cat rescues in Tokyo and funds relief efforts when natural disasters strike in Asia).  I am honored and humbled by these two men’s generosity.  The extra dollars raised above our goal will go towards spay/neuter appointments and stocking up on vaccines and chips, which we buy and apply ourselves.
